2001 Archives

2001 in Review:

2001 was devoted to public policy in the Atlanta area through luncheons and lobbying. Policy luncheons were focused on the Georgia Flag, privacy/individual rights, national security and church-state issues. Past President Cecil Alexander received AJC’s President Award for his work on the new Georgia Flag. AJC also held its annual “Peach Politics: Jewish Day at the Capital”, met with Congressman John Lewis to discuss Charitable Choice, and held luncheons featuring each of the Atlanta Mayoral candidates.

September 11th changed the end of the year programs for the Atlanta Chapter. AJC brought together the Atlanta community, following the tragedy, by organizing an interfaith service. The Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta was a by-product of that program. To better educate the community, AJC organized a discussion on “Domestic Terrorism After September 11th” with Daniel Levitas, and a lecture featuring Yehudit Barsky (Director of AJC’s Division on Middle East and International Terrorism) speaking on the issues of international and domestic terrorism.
