Atlanta Chapter

2006 Archives

Over the year 2006, The Atlanta chapter of AJC, as always, continued to strengthen ties with Christian, Indian, Black and Latino communities through specified programs and events stressing the importance of pluralism and community. Such events included the Thanksgiving Diversity Luncheon as well as an interfaith pilgrimage to Israel. The Atlanta chapter of AJC also paid special tribute to the late Coretta Scott King, as well as participated in an interfaith comedy performance exploring cross-faith and cross-cultural relations.

In the beginning of the year, the genocide in Darfur took center stage in the eyes of AJC, Atlanta Chaper. During the same time, the success of the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival was celebrated. In December of this year, Carter’s book on Israel’s supposed apartheid sparked major debate throughout the Jewish community and AJC, Atlanta Chapter. AJC, Atlanta Chapter also took a strong stance against Carter’s book as well as Iran’s looming nuclear threat.

Throughout the year AJC, Atlanta Chapter was honored to present the Judge Learned Hand Award as well as the Centennial Nation Human Relations Award. ACCESS also continued to drum up youth leadership and participation throughout the Jewish community of Atlanta through both social and active events.
