AJC and Archbishop of Atlanta Joint Statement
As published in The Georgia Bulletin

We read with great interest the position written by Nidal Ibrahim ("Israeli actions prolong the violence," @issue, Jan. 1).  Ibrahim explicitly recognizes Hamas as the root cause of the current conflict.

We agree with him that "the Palestinians in Gaza suffer from an acute lack of responsible and accountable leadership."
Hamas is a terrorist organization that has not only hurt the cause of peace but has in fact hurt and killed many of its own citizens. Like Ibrahim, we hope for a quick resolution, bringing peace to Gaza and southern Israel.

- JUDY MARX
Marx is Executive Director of American Jewish Committee's Atlanta Chapter.

Dear Dov,

As we spent the beginning of February recovering from our most successful Atlanta Jewish Film Festival ever, we spent the rest of the month working diligently to combat global anti-semitism and strengthen our Jewish identity through ACCESS's 19th Annual Entrepreneur's Night.

Following our meeting with Archbishop of Atlanta, Wilton Gregory, we released a joint statement, in response to the Vatican lifting the excommunication of a Holocuast Denying Bishop.  At our 19th Annual Entrepreneur's Night, over 130 ACCESS members came to The Home Depot to learn from Bruce Alterman (The Brickery), Israel Vahaba (Izzy Maternity), Ivan Solomon (Solomon Brothers Fine Jewelry) and Steve Kleber (Kleber and Associates).

In addition we have been working diligently to better serve your communication needs.  In an effort to keep up with the most up-to-date technologies, we have created a Facebook Fan Page, a Twitter Account, a LinkedIn group and are connecting you with AJC's YouTube site.   We hope you will join us, work with us and provide any recommendations to help us continue to improve our communications strategy.

We will continue to keep you updated, and encourage you to bookmark www.ajc.org and www.ajcatlanta.org.

David Harris - "Dear Bishop Richard Williamson"
Jerusalem Post
Dear Bishop Richard Williamson,

You've been in the news quite a bit lately, haven't you?

As one of the four bishops whose excommunication from the Church was recently lifted by the Vatican, you and your, shall we say, problematic beliefs have gained international attention.

Chief among them is your denial of the Holocaust. The Church inexplicably missed this anything-but-secret side of your life, but after much public outcry, it now insists that you recant your views before moving forward. READ BLOG.

Mideast Briefing: Alternatives to a Two State Solution? Unless Iran's nuclear drive is reversed, writes Eran Lerman, "it would fast become pointless to speculate about the two-state solution. No progress at all can be made in a world in which Israel would face existential challenges, and those who reject any form of coexistence would be emboldened." READ BRIEFING.

New AJC Study Shows Jewish Affiliation Stable Despite "Religious Switching"
Religious SwitchingThe number of American Jews who remain connected to their Jewish heritage is much more stable than is conventionally thought, concludes Tom W. Smith in Religious Switching among American Jews. Smith, director of the General Social Survey at the National Opinion Research Center of the University of Chicago, examines Jewish religious identification in the U.S. in the context of "religious switching" - leaving one faith for another faith or for no faith. Paul Berman on "Gaza and After"
ZWord_logoIn an extensive interview on AJC's acclaimed website, Z Word, Paul Berman, the author of Terror and Liberalism and one of the leading public intellectuals in the US, discusses the recent war between Israel and Hamas, western perceptions of Hamas and the persistence of anti-Semitism in our own time. Supporting President Obama on Energy Security
AJC welcomed President Obama's call for the EPA to revisit California's request, which AJC endorses, to impose stricter auto emissions standards than federal law requires. Obama also asked the Transportation Department to consider stricter fuel-efficiency standards for cars and light trucks. READ NEWS RELEASE.
