AJC Radio Message: Palestinian Youth Penalized for Performance in Israel

AJC Executive Director David Harris, in his national radio commentary, discussed the Palestinian decision to disband a Youth Orchestra after the youths performed in Israel before an audience of Holocaust survivors.

Harris's weekly radio messages on the CBS radio network air during the Osgood files.  All AJC radio messages since 2001 are available HERE.

Dear Dov,

March was very busy and successful for AJC.  We began the month discussing Israel with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, brought together Emerging leaders from the Black and Jewish communities at our bi-annual Project Understanding retreat, recognized AJC's major donors and Cathy Selig Kuranoff at A Caring Affair at the Atlanta Community Foodbank and concluded the month with the Audience Award Screenings for the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (also our most successful ever)!

We have a number of exciting events taking place.  We hope you will join us in support AJC and attend the Atlanta Chapter Awards Dinner.

6:00 - 9:00pm

RSVP HERE.

Ideological conflicts among Mediterranean nations do not reflect the true amount of common values amongst those nations. Drawing from Judaism, Christianity and Islam, the Mediterranean's historic
evolution has collectively shaped this culturally and spiritually amazing region of the world.

AJC Assistant Director Dov Wilker, Clayton State professor Khedija Gadhoum and Emory professors Roberto Franzosi, Gordon Newby and Sam Cherribi will speak on this shared heritage and the values of a greater Mediterranean space. They will then be followed by the key note speaker for the evening, his Excellency Reda Mansour, Ambassador of Israel.

Chefs Rita and Rafih Benjelloun
of Imperial Fez and Ibiza invites you to savor the richness of Mediterranean cuisine and share in talks on the Mediterranean's cultural and religious dimensions.

Executive Director Remarks at Gorbachev-Shultz Reunion

David Harris was invited to give substantive opening remarks at a historic reunion between former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz, moderated by Charlie Rose.

Gorbachev publicly praised it as an "outstanding speech" that, he said, helped him to gain a new understanding of the Jewish community's view of Russian and Soviet Jewish history.

Mideast Briefing: Israel, Egypt Must Re-vitalize Peace
On March 26, 1979, Anwar Sadat, Menachem Begin, and Jimmy Carter clasped hands in affirmation that life can be very different in a region seared by war, writes Eran Lerman. "Yet much of what has happened since has been bitterly disappointing, and we now face the need to reexamine and revitalize this cornerstone of the regional architecture, give it new meaning, and offer once again the promise of real peace to a generation that may have forgotten just how dramatic and breathtaking this achievement was at the time."

Pope Benedict XVI and the Jews
David rosen"The pope has not only reaffirmed the Church's unqualified repudiation of anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial, he has reiterated the importance of Holocaust education and he has especially repeated his own profound commitment to continuing the path of his predecessor in advancing Catholic-Jewish relations," writes Rabbi David Rosen in the Jerusalem Post.
