AJC Radio Message: Celebrating Israel's
61st Birthday
While Israel has thrived for 61 years, ominous threats persist from Iran and others in the region, says AJC Executive Director David Harris, in his national radio commentary. "They don't hide their goal of a world without Israel," says Harris.
Harris's weekly radio messages on the CBS radio network air during the Osgood files. All AJC radio messages since 2001 are available HERE.

Dear Dov,
We accomplished a tremendous amount during April, including the celebration of our Freedom from Slavery during Passover. We joined with The Temple and the Israeli Consulate to kick-off the Rabin-King Initiative at Morehouse College. It is a major accomplishment, strengthening the bonds between the Jewish and Black Communities. We met with representatives of Atlanta's Consular Corps to discuss the Durban Review Conference in Geneva Switzerland. Although the conference reaffirmed its decision to support the anti-Israel statements from 2001, we commend the representatives at the Conference for walking out in the middle of the speech by President Ahmadinejad of Iran, and especially those nations that boycotted the conference along with the US and Israel. The month ended with our commemoration and celebration of Israel's Memorial Day and Independence Day. Both events were powerful examples of the strength of relationships between the US and Israel.
We hope you will join us at both the Atlanta Chapter Awards Dinner honoring Cathy Selig Kuranoff and our Annual Meeting featuring David Harris, AJC's Executive Director.

AJC Around the World
Executive Director's Blog:
Tragedy Masquerading as Farce
"There was the Iranian president addressing the Durban Review Conference in Geneva...if a thug, whose mug shot should be on "wanted" posters around the world for violations of human rights and calls to genocide, can dine with the president of Switzerland, plan a visit to Brazil to discuss expanding trade ties, and speak in a hall once infused with the spirit of such human rights legends as René Cassin and Eleanor Roosevelt, then something is wrong, very wrong."

Mideast Briefing: The Price of Jewish Sovereignty - and Survival
"For Israelis, the celebration of our Independence Day never comes without the ever-recurring experience of the preceding day, Yom Ha-Zikaron, dedicated to the commemoration of those who gave their lives, or fell victim, in our long struggle for sovereignty and survival," writes Eran Lerman.
OPED: No Discounts for Iran
"...More concessions now will only strengthen Tehran's belief that the international community will lessen its demands if Iran holds on long enough, and embolden Iran to prolong its elaborate diplomatic ruse," writes Emanuele Ottolenghi in a Haaretz op-ed. Ottolenghi is director of AJC's Transatlantic Institute in Brussels, and author, most recently, of Under a Mushroom Cloud: Europe, Iran and the Bomb (Profile Books).
