The North Korean Threat

"History has shown that North Korea has no scruples about where and what it sells. Iran and Syria are two of its biggest clients," writes David Harris in his Jerusalem Post blog, "Why North Korea Matters." READ AND JOIN THE DISCUSSION.

Harris also devoted his weekly national radio commentary on the CBS network to the issue.

Dear Dov,

May was a truly exciting month at AJC.  ACCESS began the month with "Keeping the Faith" an interreligious Dialogue between Christians, Muslims and Jews (over 100 people were in attendance).  At AJC's national Annual meeting 19 Atlantans represented the chapter and were present when  Congressman John Lewis received AJC's Moral Courage Award by Toby Sidman (Atlantan and AJC National Board Member).  The following week, we honored Cathy Selig Kuranoff and presented her with AJC's Selig Distinguished Service Award.  A week later, we followed that evening, with our 65th Annual Meeting featuring AJC's Executive Director, David Harris who spoke about Global Challenges for Jewish Diplomacy (you can watch his remarks on-line by clicking here or on the photo) and Congratulations to all of our newly elected Board of Trustees and Officers.

In addition to these amazing events, we hosted private meetings with the Swiss Ambassador to the U.S. and French Muslims to discuss successful Cross cultural communications. We discussed Israel with Atlanta's Black-Jewish Coalition and announced the dates for our 10th Annual Atlanta Jewish Film Festival - Jan. 13-24.

AJC Analysis: Don't let Iran cross the nuclear threshold
Christian science monitor logo
"While there is a broad consensus in the West that Iran should be dissuaded from pursuing its nuclear weapons program, no clear strategy has emerged for attaining that goal. ...

"...Putting the question off indefinitely is not an option. There will come a moment when Iran has indisputably crossed the nuclear threshold. Then it will be too late."

Mideast Briefing: Iran Elections Will Change Little
Whoever wins the June 7 elections, and it seems President Ahmadinejad will be re-elected, the pursuit of nuclear weapons will be a high priority for Iran. "From Saudi Arabia, which fears for the future of Mecca and Medina, to Morocco, which last month threw out the subversive Iranian embassy, it's becoming clear this is not Israel's problem alone, write Eran Lerman, director of AJC's Israel/Middle East Office.

The High Price of Deterring IranOPED:
Wall Street Journal Europe Publishes Op-Ed by AJC's Transatlantic Institute.

As Iran's presidential elections near, there is renewed optimism that some sort of great bargain could be struck with Tehran. The hope is that a new face may come to represent Iran after the June 12 vote and with the Obama administration prepared to engage the Islamic Republic, an accommodation about its nuclear program may yet be found.
